Christine Hallquist’s Bio

Christine’s career has included roles in computer design, manufacturing, and manufacturing consulting with tech, automotive, food and beverage companies. She became a CEO for Vermont Electric Cooperative in 2000 that ultimately  became nationally recognized for its work using advanced technologies.

In 2015 Christine transitioned to female while still keeping her role as CEO. In 2018, she ran for Governor of Vermont as a democrat and became the first openly transgender major party gubernatorial candidate in the country.

After the race, Christine formed a joint-venture company in Canada to develop a new porous silicon battery storage technology to enable the electric grid to operate on 100% renewable energy, 100% of the time. Unfortunately the technology could not be scaled to the size needed for the electric grid.

Christine then went on to help two start-up Communication Union Districts in Vermont whose goal was to get all locations in member towns connected to fiber optic broadband. In July, 2021, Governor Scott appointed Christine to lead this effort for the entire state.
