The 5th Annual Town & Country FCU Money Conference is set for Saturday, October 19, from Noon to 5 p.m., at the Abromson Center at the University of Southern Maine in Portland. The line-up of speakers and workshops reinforces the Conference’s goal to present financial issues and topics that offer something for nearly every demographic, and is among the most unique financial education events offered anywhere in Maine. Attendance is open to anyone, and at no cost.
The 2019 Conference features workshops on a variety of topics, including a number of new sessions, such as The Sandwich Generation, which is focused on providing information, resources and suggestions on how to start talking to your elderly family members and children about financial issues: Uncoupling Your Money in Separation and Divorce, a workshop to help attendees contemplating separation or divorce understand why and how to uncouple their personal finances to help establish a new life; and What Is Financial Health, Really?, a workshop that features nationally-acclaimed financial behavioral expert, Sarah Newcomb, who will discuss research into the minds of spenders and explain how four simple mental factors can affect your financial health. Other sessions include workshops on Home Buying, Credit Basics, Paying for College, Saving for Retirement, Estate Planning and more.
There is strong evidence of the need for learning opportunities related to finances, with research indicating that 40% of Mainers don’t have money on hand to cover a $400 emergency, and 78% of Mainers live paycheck to paycheck.
While the Conference runs for the entire afternoon, attendees can choose to attend one session or stay for the entire Conference. “This Conference is about sharing knowledge and information to help people better understand important financial issues that impact their lives today and in the future,” added Libby.
Although there is no charge to attend, pre-registration is encouraged for planning purposes. To register, please visit www.tcfcu.com/community-events/money-conference
There will also be exhibitors from the community and various organizations, and complimentary food and beverages provided at the conclusion of the Conference.
