The United Nations has declared 2025 the International Year of Cooperatives, honoring the power of cooperatives to shape a brighter, more equitable future. This year’s theme, “Cooperatives Build a Better World,” aligns with Cooperative Maine Business Alliance’s (CMBA) mission and the collective work of Maine’s co-ops.

Cooperatives are pathways to shared wellbeing, democratic ownership, and community resilience. Co-ops across Maine are meeting critical needs through providing affordable housing, empowering workers, fostering sustainable food systems, and provide solutions across diverse challenges. This people-centric force rooted in life, dignity, and sustainability is truly worth celebrating!

We view this global celebration of cooperatives as an opportunity to showcase and amplify the incredible work by local cooperatives happening right here in Maine. From our Cooperative Principle Six Conference, which highlights how Maine co-ops drive positive social and economic change, to our educational webinars and new, in-person initiatives, we are proud to support this movement as it builds a better Maine, a better nation, a better world.

We invite you to join us in celebrating the power of cooperation in 2025. Together, we can make this a year of connection, learning, and action – Let’s show the world what it means to build a better Maine through cooperation. ❤️ -CMBA
